Jessie Eames was born and raised in Honaunau on the Big Island and is a registered nurse in the oncology department at Queen’s Medical Center. Jessie is a member of Hui Lanakila Canoe Club, and is an accomplished team and individual paddler. Jessie was on the winning Na Wahine O Ke Kai crew in 2000 and 2001 with Kai Opua Canoe Club. She also took 2nd three times with Hui Lanakila Canoe Club in 2005, 2006 and 2008. Jessie took the 2009 paddling season off to give birth to a beautiful baby girl, but is looking forward to competing in the upcoming long distance season.
Jaimie Kinard was born in Hilo, and graduated from UC San Diego with a BS in Clinical Psychology and Economics. A firefighter for the Honolulu Fire Department by day, she is a three time runner-up in the Na Wahine O Ke Kai race from Molokai to Oahu with Hui Lanakila Canoe Club and 3rd place finisher in the 2009 PA'A OC-1 World Championship Solo Race from Molokai to Oahu. In addition to the time she spends raising cancer awareness, Jaimie also gives back to the community as an assistant coach with the Mid-Pacific high school girls paddling program and a member of Aloha United Way's Society of Young Leaders. Jaimie took the 2010 OC-1 & regatta season off to focus on her career but, like Jessie, is looking forward to returning to the racing circuit this long distance season.
Madisen Minkel is a St. Francis graduate with a Nursing degree from the University of Portland, and works as a chemotherapy nurse for Dr. Chong at OnCare Hawaii, a private practice consisting of 12 doctors specializing in Hematology and Oncology. Her passion for helping cancer patients and their families was amplified when she lost her father to cancer during her senior year of nursing school. She believes promoting early screening saves lives, and strives to help families avoid a loss like the one her family experienced. Madisen has been paddling for ten years, and is just coming off a successful OC-1 season, haven taken second in the Ka'iwi Channel Relay and first in the PA'A Eono Hoe with Team Free Agents.
Miki'ala Ramler is Big Island born and bred, and is a nurse in the Cardiac Comprehensive Care Unit at Queen’s Medical Center. Miki’ala is passionate about promoting health education within the community and sees Race to Heal as a chance to give back to our island community and reach those outside of the hospital setting. Miki’ala recently completed her second OC-1 season, taking second place in the mixed division of the Ka'iwi Channel Relay with her brother, Hayden. She is also a longtime paddler and Board member for the Healani Canoe Club.
